In 2008, railways consisted of 1,138 km of track, not including industrial lines. Also in that same year, roadways totalled 9,343 km, including 8,810 km of paved roads.
Moldova has 558 km of inland waterways. Access to the sea is through Ukraine or Romania. The Giurgiuleşti terminal on the Danube is compatible with small seagoing vessels. Shipping on the lower Prut and Nistru rivers plays only a modest role in the country's transportation system.
The sole international air gateway of Moldova is the Chisinau International Airport. There were 11 airports in 2010, five with paved runways. Air transport is provided by Air Moldova International and Moldavian Airlines, both private carriers, and a state company, Air Moldova. In 2001, 120,100 passengers were carried on domestic and international airline flights.
